At the Promise Zone Research Connection (PZRC), we believe that the voices and participation of West Philadelphia residents are essential to the success of our mission. We are here to ensure that the research conducted in our community benefits its residents by prioritizing their needs and concerns. Through the PZRC and the Community Research Review Board (CRRB), you have the power to make a difference by shaping how research is designed and conducted in the Promise Zone.

Why Get Involved?

The PZRC and CRRB are committed to protecting the interests of our community. Your involvement ensures that research not only respects and protects residents but also brings tangible benefits to West Philadelphia. By participating, you’ll help ensure that researchers are accountable to the community, and that studies are conducted ethically, with the well-being of residents in mind.

  • Help Shape Research: As a member of the CRRB, you’ll have the opportunity to review research proposals, ask important questions, and ensure that studies address the needs and concerns of Promise Zone residents.
  • Ensure Community Benefits: We work to prevent “research fatigue” by ensuring that studies conducted in the Promise Zone provide value to the community and lead to real improvements in quality of life.
  • Advocate for Ethical Research: The CRRB holds researchers accountable, making sure that they follow ethical standards and share their findings with the community.

How You Can Get Involved

There are several ways for residents to get involved with the PZRC and CRRB:

  • Join the Community Research Review Board: Become a part of a dedicated group of residents and stakeholders who review research proposals to ensure they align with the community’s best interests. No prior experience is required — training is provided. The CRRB meets once a month for two to three hours, and your voice can help shape the future of research in West Philadelphia.
  • Attend Events and Meetings: Participate in our community events, meetings, and research discussions to stay informed and share your input. Upcoming events will be listed on this page, so stay tuned for opportunities to connect with fellow residents and researchers.
  • Share Your Thoughts: We encourage residents to share their experiences and perspectives on how research affects their community. Your feedback helps us advocate for research that truly serves West Philadelphia’s needs.
